Research

Two strands: what becomes of a software artefact when it is transformed — models, microservices, megamodeling — and AI for education in large classes.

This research examines what is lost, or added, when one software artifact is transformed into another. This includes turning one model into another (model transformations) and a monolithic application into microservices (consistency management). More broadly, it addresses complex systems maintained through megamodeling. In parallel, a second line of research focuses on AI for education: teacher-centered adaptive learning for large classes in Africa.

Research areas

  • Software Engineering & Modern Software Architectures
  • Megamodeling & Complex Systems
  • Model Transformations Leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) and Neural Embeddings
  • Formal Consistency Management (Axiomatic Semantics, Formal Methods)

Active projects

SEMANTICA — Model Transformations and AI

Decomposing semantic loss in model transformations using neural embeddings; queryable megamodels and Bayesian integration of new domain-specific modeling languages (DSMLs).

Related publication: Decomposing Semantic Loss in Model Transformations with Neural Embeddings (ICECET 2026).

AI4Nieup — Adaptive Learning Platform for AI Education

Democratizing AI education in Africa: personalized learning paths by level (intuition / application / formal), data grounded in African contexts, and integrated hands-on labs. Developed within DiCentre4AI and the African Futures Research Leadership Program (AFRLP) of the Alliance for African Partnership (AAP), Michigan State University (MSU).

Consistency in Microservice Architectures

Extending the Micro-Flex framework (ICTIS 2025): a complete transition function, a TLA+ specification verified by model checking, and a DSL for consistency contracts.
